Busy Mama Kellie

I have always loved the expression “Save the Drama for your Mama.” Until one day I realized that I was the mama. It’s not so cute anymore. Can I request that my kids save their drama for someone else’s mama? I’m tired.
I am the mother of a preschooler with an unhealthy princess obsession and a love of all that is tragic in her 4-year old life. If they offered a gifted and talented program for drama queens at her preschool then she would be at the head of the class. Heck, she could teach the class. I am also mom to a 2-year old toddler who is blessedly mellow most of the time – when he’s not throwing fits of epic proportions over milk, food, toys, clothes, walking, breathing… (did I mention he’s mellow?). Right now his favorite things in life include trucks, dogs, milk, and clinging onto my leg screaming and head-butting my crotch while I try to prepare dinner each night. Oh yeah, and bananas. He loves bananas.
My husband, Dr. DreamyMcSteamy (Note: this is a SELF-given nickname. He fancies himself as a bit of a ladies man. I try not to laugh when he says this, or at least not snort when I laugh.) is a general dentist and like many dentists’ spouses I work in the office with him. Yup, we’re together almost 24/7 and it’s been surprisingly great. I used to have a separate professional life at an environmental consulting firm but chose to give that up when I was pregnant with our second one to enjoy more flexible working hours and the ability to spend extra time with the kids. So now instead of traveling to exotic far-off locations and working on multi-million dollar development projects, my days are filled with patient charts, billing, insurance claims and explaining to patients that yes, they really do need to pay their $4.56 bill for an exam, cleaning, x-rays and two fillings even though they think the cost is too high.
So that’s just a little about me. I was born and raised in Hawaii but spent several years in other states across the country (CA, OR, NM, MA, and NJ). I’ve been back home for a while now and love being surrounded by family and friends. Living on the mainland was an interesting experience but nothing compares to life in Hawaii – who can complain about taking the kids camping at the beach, going to the tidepools to catch critters for your saltwater aquarium or just spending a day at the beach in the middle of January? That’s my life. Despite the occasional drama I wouldn’t change a thing.

That picture is so adorable…I wish my life was at a point where I could have kids 2 yrs apart, I’ve always thought that is the perfect in-between space. Anyway, it was very interesting to read about you and Dr. DreamyMcSteamy (what a one-two punch!). Thanks for stopping by too
