Save your kids from mosquitoes with Bug Bam

May 21st, 2008

Bug Bam Package I don’t know about your kids, but mine are very juicy and taste really good to mosquitoes. Dr. DreamyMcSteamy is also especially tasty and mosquitoes will always attack him first. Always. In fact, I use him as my personal mosquito repellant since they won’t even touch me if he’s around (Someone told me once that mosquitoes are attracted to people that emit an odor reminiscent of cheese. I’ve told my husband many times that he is cheesy, now I have proof.). The problem is I can’t drag him around everywhere I go so sometimes the kids and I have to rely on alternative bug repellant.

Bug Bam Wristband This poses a problem for my daughter who is always coming home from Japanese school (her after school activity 3 times a week) with her arms and legs full of welts and bites. I’ve tried various repellants in different forms including spray-on, lotion and wipes, but I can’t stand the residue it leaves behind. Then I read about Bug Bam, an all-natural mosquito repelling wristband infused with plant extracts (citronella, geranium and lemongrass) that can go on your wrist or ankle. The wristbands smell like lemons (lemon Pledge to be exact - because we all want to smell like a coffee table) and are easy to put on and take off. They look a lot like those popular LiveStrong wristbands that everyone was wearing at one point and maintains their scent pretty well if you store them in its resealable pouch. According to the manufacturer, Bug Bam wristbands have a useful life of approximately 100 hours.

Since my daughter started wearing the Bug Bam band on her ankle she hasn’t received a single mosquito bite. I tried to get Dr. DreamyMcSteamy to wear them but he refused. He’d rather get bitten (and complain endlessly while making sure to give me the total bite count he received) than have to wear a bracelet. If you’re going to be outdoors this summer, and don’t find rubber bracelets to be an insult to your fashion sense, consider the Bug Bam wristband, they’re awesome! I bought mine from Wal-Mart but you can also find them at Walgreens or you can buy them here.

  • Great find! Thanks for letting us know about this. This will be good for summer camping trips too :)

  • I just purchased these wristbands for my family on their website www.bugbam.com They offer a wide variety of packages. I also found these wristbands for kids on www.leapsandbounds.com and they have very good reviews. I can’t wait to try them as the mosquitoes are ruining our evenings in Dallas.

  • Thanks for the info Nicole! I’ll have to try the kid’s sizes next time.
