Tooth Tunes Junior: I love this one even more than the original!

Tooth Tunes Junior

Not long ago, I did a post on the Tooth Tunes toothbrush by Hasbro and Tiger Electronics and mentioned what a great product it is.  As a result I received a Jungle Book Tooth Tunes Junior sample for my two-year-old to try.  Woohoo for free stuff!  I couldn’t wait to try it out on him because I wanted to see his reaction when the music started.  I thought about dropping everything and dragging him into the bathroom right then and there, but I managed to show some restraint at wait at least until dinner was over.  Once the plates were cleared I rushed him into the bathroom to look at his new toy.  No dessert for you baby, we got teeth to brush!  Yeah!!  Only a dentist’s family can show such unbridled enthusiasm over oral hygiene products.  Or a bunch of dorks.  Probably dorks.  But let’s just call it professional interest.

My son looked a little bewildered over the fact that he was still trying to swallow his meal as I shoved the toothbrush in his mouth, but he got over it quickly when he heard “The Bear Necessities” start playing.  His face broke out into a huge grin and he excitedly tried to tell me about the music that was coming from his toothbrush.

I admit, I’ve never really had a problem getting my son to brush his teeth.  He’s usually a willing participant but sometimes he likes to bite the brush or he gets tired of keeping his mouth open, which makes it a little hard to clean the back teeth. With the Tooth Tunes Junior, however, he is the model patient.  When I tell him it’s time to brush he runs, yes runs, for the bathroom and anxiously waits for me to turn it on.  During the brushing he makes sure to keep his mouth wide open (wider than usual) and for this fact alone I think I can get his teeth cleaner than with his usual Crest Spin Brush.  I also love that the timer (which is only one minute long as opposed to the two minutes with the regular Tooth Tunes version) helps me know how long to brush his teeth.  If you use an electric toothbrush with a timer, like Sonicare or the Oral B Triumph, you won’t have this problem.  However, most kids’ toothbrushes don’t come with timers.

The Tooth Tunes Junior was specially developed for little hands and mouths.  The toothbrush plays preschool-friendly music and talks to the brusher with encouraging phrases (which thrills my son to no end - he even talks back to his brush).  I absolutely love the Tooth Tunes Junior and will definitely be getting more of them for my son later!

  • Cool idea but wow, that is one expensive toothbrush. Any coupons floating out there???

  • Cute idea!

  • Great idea…is it specifically for 2 year olds or is there like an age bracket? I think my daughter might get a heart attack if something was buzzing in her mouth lol

  • Angela - Yeah, it is a little pricey for something that will need to be replaced eventually. I guess you could look it as a way to motivate your little one to brush and develop good brushing habits then move them onto a regular brush without all the bells and whistles later.

Jojo - The manufacturer says it is meant for 3 and up, but it really depends on the child. My son freaked out when I first started using the Crest Spin Brush on him a while back - those things are loud! - but he’s used to it now.

  • My 3 year old is like your 2 year old about brushing. I will keep this one in my back pocket in case she stops cooperating with me. :)
