Travel Tip: Apple iPod Radio Adapter
January 7th, 2008
We all decided (Dr. DreamyMcSteamy would say he was forced) to drive from Las Vegas to Anaheim for the second leg of our big trip. I must say that even though it took much longer to get to California than flying, it was so nice to drive since we (I) didn’t have the stress of dealing with getting the kids onto another plane. However, since it was going to be at least a four-hour car ride, I knew we would need lots of stuff to keep the kids occupied.
The iPod radio adapter was a very handy thing to have for the ride. Our kids love to listen to music and for some reason they have an obsession with the Jojo’s Circus CD. My daughter received this CD from my best friend when she was a baby and it was her absolute favorite thing to listen to. Every time we got into the car she would shout jojo-jojo-jojo until I played it. I heard that dang thing so many times I knew each song by heart and was relieved when she finally got bored with it (13 months later). A few months ago I made the mistake of playing it for my son (yes, it was still in my CD changer). Of course he loved it just as much as his sister and now I have to play it every time we get into the car or listen to him shout jojo-jojo-jojo. Talk about déjà vu. To make matters worse, my daughter has renewed her old obsession with the stupid CD and she asks for it when her brother forgets to. Damn it. Oh well, I’d rather hear them singing than grumbling and whining.
I knew a gadget that allowed me to play our iPod (and their favorite music) on the car radio would be a lifesaver on the trip. Even if we had to listen to Jojo’s cannonball song 400 times, it would be better than hearing them scream and fight across the Nevada desert. Dr. DreamyMcSteamy purchased a Belkin Tunebase FM with ClearScan and it worked wonderfully. All you do is hook your iPod up to the device and plug it into the car’s cigarette lighter. When you turn the device on it will display a radio station frequency. Simply tune the car radio to that station and you can hear your iPod music. So easy! I would definitely recommend this or a similar device if you are planning a long car trip or if you want to use your iPod in the car for everyday trips around town.
