TSO, Lord of the Geeks
January 19th, 2008
In case you didn’t know, TSO (Karen’s husband), is a bit of a tech geek. He’d call it “studliness” I’m sure, but as far as Karen is concerned, geek is much more fitting. His love of technology is legendary in our circle of friends and his wife has been known to have to leave scheduled social gatherings abruptly because of things like the release of a new tech product (i.e., the Apple iPhone) that her husband just has to have. Right now.
Not long ago, TSO and I were talking and he confided in me that he has proof that his wife is a geek too. According to him, Karen eagerly attended the premiere release of Leopard, the new operating system for Mac computers (yes, they actually have special release “parties” for things like this and shut down the
Apple store for these events). He went on to tell me that he has photos of her happily standing in line and that she even made sure she got a snazzy Leopard t-shirt to wear. All proof, he said, that she shares his geekiness (I mean studliness).
I guess he didn’t realize that I had talked to Karen about all of this just days before. According to her, she barely made it to Dream Dinners on time because TSO wanted Karen to attend the Leopard release with him and their kids. He also made her stand in line and pose for the photos. He then insisted that she get a shirt and instructed her to “take one if they offer it” even if she had no intention of wearing it.
Moral of the post? Always make sure you hear both sides of the story! You certainly don’t want to be accusing someone of being a geek under false pretenses. In TSO’s case it is well deserved. But we all love him. Especially since he provides lots of helpful technology tips and ideas for us busy mamas and he’s the only one that can fix my computer when it goes on the fritz (or when the operator has no idea what she is doing).
