Kauai Westin 1

The other weekend we joined a couple of other busy mamas and their families for a few relaxing days and nights at the newly-built Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas in Kauai (a 20-minute flight from Honolulu). It was the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we’ve had in years!

We arrived at the resort in the early evening and the kids (Moms and Dads included) were impressed just walking into the beautiful lobby. My daughter was even more thrilled when we walked into our room. She jumped up and down asking if we were going to stay there and shouted “This is the BEST DAY of my LIFE!!! Did you guys bring me here because you LOVE me??” Did I mention she’s a bit dramatic?

Each family stayed in their own beautifully appointed studio villa complete with kitchen, jacuzzi tub and washer/dryer combo. Perfect for a family getaway. The Westin’s resort amenities were also great for families. A kiddie pool complete with giant turtles and a water slide was located just steps from our room. This is pretty much where the Moms and kids spent the entire trip (the Dad’s spent it on the golf course). A larger big “kids” pool was also nearby but unfortunately we never got a chance to use it. We did however manage to take advantage of the poolside bar for some afternoon cocktails around the kiddie pool. What with the water slide, bubbling turtles, and foot-and-a-half deep pool, the childcare pretty much took care of itself! All we had to do was make sure everyone’s head stayed above the water and no one got knocked down by someone coming down the slide. Ahh, if babysitting was like this everyday I’d gladly pop out a few more kids and become a stay-at-home mom! Well, maybe. Ok, probably not.

The next time we take a group vacation we’ll definitely try to stay in a facility with condo amenities again. The convenience of having a fully-equipped kitchen and BBQ grills just outside our lanai gave us the wonderful option of cooking our own meals rather than having to keep the kids sitting nicely during expensive restaurant meals (You should have seen us moms trying to shovel in our breakfast while keeping 6 wiggly little butts planted at the table each morning - not fun. Where were the dads? Oh yeah, golfing.) . We could relax in the room with friends, let the kids run around and chase the chickens (yes, chickens), and kick back with some nice cocktails. If you’re ever in Kauai, check out the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas! It was a perfect vacation from start to finish. Well, except for the men spending so much time golfing and leaving us with the kids…but that’s a whole other issue.

  • I think it’s time for us to move out of this concrete jungle and to Hawaii. How beautiful! And I totally agree re: condos vs plain hotel rooms. Having that extra living space to chill once the kids go to bed is key. I’m so jealous. So so jealous. :)

  • We want to go to Kuai in a couple of years. Is that hotel totally pricey? Looks awesome and I know my kids would have a ton of fun there!

  • I agree with Angela @ My Asian Heritage.. We need to pack up and move in with you guys! Oh.. you make me so jealous. :)

Looks like it’s a great vacation for the whole family!

  • That is a beautiful hotel. I used to stay there when I worked for Sheraton Hotels way back when. It was so nice we never really left the property!

  • Are you kidding me! I am soooo jealous. Hubby and I went to Kuai on our honeymoon in 2001 and it is utterly gorgeous. We visited literally days after 9/11 so it was deserted though, which was a bit of a shame. Felt like we had the place to ourselves!

  • OH wow What a blast!!!!

  • Hi Kellie, thanks for stopping by my blog! Hutterites are a plain group of people (similar to the Amish) who live in colonies. They are generally very productive with huge gardens and beautiful produce in the summer. If you Google them, you’d probably find out a lot more… :)

Don’t forget to enter my giveaway next time you stop by…
