Who Am I?
May 17th, 2008
Recently we had my cousin and her family visiting us from London. My cousin and her husband have a 4 year old son, Fireman, and a 2 year old daughter, Ariel. Along with my three boys we had a house with 5 kids - ages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years. It got pretty hectic and just a tad bit noisy. Alright, they got very loud but the 5 of them giggling and running around together was a lot of fun.
As you can imagine there were a couple, no a few, (who am I kidding?) there were MANY times that the 5 of them got out of hand and we needed them to calm down and sit down quietly. Taking control of 5 excited children is not that easy (I give preschool teachers a lot of credit) and since I was out of rope to tie them up with we were out of options (I’m kidding, really!).
My cousin’s husband came up with a great game called “Who Am I?” for the kids to play. It’s like 20 questions but on a preschool level. One kid thinks of a person, cartoon character, or animal etc. and the others have to ask questions to figure out who the child is. Due to the young ages of our group of kids we needed an adult to play to move things along and ask the”obvious” questions to give the children a few hints.
This game is great for car rides, restaurants, or any time you need the kids to sit down quietly and focus on something else. TSO Jr and Matman love playing this game all the time now. Matman asks a lot of questions but doesn’t quite get it yet though he still enjoys himself. We played just this morning in the car. My husband TSO thought of who/what he was and the kids and I started with our questions. It went like this.
Matman: You a monkey?
TSO: No.
TSO Jr: Are you an animal?
TSO: Yes.
Matman: You a monkey?
TSO: No.
Busymama: Do you have 4 legs?
TSO: No, I have 2 legs.
Matman: You a monkey?
TSO: No, I’m not a monkey.
TSO Jr: Are you a snake?
TSO: No, I have 2 legs.
Matman: Uh, you a monkey?
TSO: Matman, I am NOT a monkey.
Busymama: Are you the color black?
TSO: Yes, and white.
Matman: You a monkey?
TSO: No.
TSO Jr: Are you Kung-Fu Panda?
TSO: Yes, I am Kung-Fu Panda!
I’m telling you this game is a lifesaver and you the kids will have fun playing.

Not always but sometimes it takes less patience for something like this over let’s say screaming!
Like yesterday, Matman is on his 3rd week of school and he is so tired by the end of the day because he’s used to taking 3 hour naps. Anyway by the end of the day he is grouchy and yesterday we had to stop at the market. TSO goes to unbuckle his car seat and he freaks because he wants me to do it. So instead of dealing with the screaming I buckle him back up just so I can be the one to unbuckle it. It’s crazy I know but I was tired after a long day at work and it took less patience to buckle him back up then it would have to listen to all the racket!
